When it comes to balancing mind, body and spirit, Yoga and Ayurveda go hand in hand. Both Yoga and Ayurveda are based on developing an awareness and understanding of the soul (atman), helping us alleviate many ailments that trouble our minds and bodies.
When practiced right, both these branches of the vast pool of Vedic knowledge prove to be tremendously beneficial.
According to Dr Hebbar with Easy Ayurveda, Yoga and Ayurveda are tools that can provide relief from a variety of somatic and psychosomatic symptoms of chronic ailments too. Knowing about these somatic conditions is important to understand the impact they can possibly have on our bodies, if not treated within time. Let’s have a look at the list of the most common somatic conditions:
Somatic Conditions
⦁ Somatization
Somatization is when psychological or emotional turmoil or concerns are expressed in the form of physical symptoms. These symptoms are typically pain, fatigue, nausea, shortness of breath and a lot more, and vary from person to person.
⦁ Somatoform Disorder (Mild to moderate < 6 months)
This disorder is diagnosed when psychological distress manifests into physical bodily symptoms, like skin rash. It is a simple, treatable symptom, but will be perceived by the patient as something grave and serious like skin cancer. The development of the worst-case scenario mentality is a key symptom of this disorder.
⦁ Undifferentiated Somatic Form Disorder (Mild to moderate < 6 months)
In this disorder, even when all the vitals of the patient are perfectly normal, the patient still complains of physical ailments.
⦁ Body Dysmorphic Disorder
The primary symptom of body dysmorphic disorder is the obsession of the patient with flaws in the physical body.
⦁ Hypochondriasis
In this disorder, the patient keeps obsessing and worrying about having a serious medical condition, even when it has not yet been diagnosed.
⦁ Conversion Disorder aka Functional Neurological System Disorder
This neurological condition comes with physical and sensory problems that manifest in the forms of numbness, paralysis, seizures, blindness, deafness and other nervous system symptoms. The interesting aspect is that none of these symptoms can be explained by medical evaluation and testing.

Mental Illness Disorders
